And while Zendaya and John David Washington’s performances are enthralling, their home is almost like another character in and of itself.

That’s right, the Caterpillar House is a real location in Carmel-by-the-Sea in California.
Built in 2010, the Caterpillar House is the work of architect Jonathan Feldman of Feldman Architecture.
The impressive structure features a curved, open-plan design that feels at one with nature thanks to its rammed earth walls and towering glass windows that look out on the Californian hills.
The award-winning Caterpillar House is also renowned for being an eco-friendly structure and was the first building on California’s Central Coast to earn Platinum LEED certification.
However, if you fancied visiting Caterpillar House, you’re not in much luck as the building is a private residence which was rented out for filming.
Filming on the project ran from June 17th to July 2nd, 2020.
Like many industries in the last year, the film and TV world has faced unprecedented challenges thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, Malcolm & Marie is a film that was entirely conceived, filmed and edited after the Covid-19 outbreak.
Unsurprisingly, this led to a number of challenges including two weeks of quarantine before and after shooting.
On top of that, the film’s cast and crew lived inside their own bubble and had to receive regular tests during the production process, which also saw crew members behind the camera sporting face masks and other safety equipment.
Malcolm & Marie is available to stream now on Netflix after releasing on February 5th, 2021
